What It’s Like Working Two Jobs VS What I Thought It Would Be Like.

I briefly worked two jobs a few years back, I worked 5 days a week at the airport doing shift work and then one or two days a week at Starbucks also doing shift work, this was super tiring and I didn’t have any energy because I was always up early and not getting enough sleep. I only did this for a few months before Christmas as I was trying to save up some extra money for Christmas presents.

(This didn’t give me a good vision of what working two jobs would be like this time around.)

I decided in August of this year to get myself a second job, as an attempt to help me save more each month to go towards my mortgage fund.

During the week I work my normal job in plant and construction from 7:30am to 17:00 and on the weekend, I work as a waitress in a local café between 9:00am and 16:00. Sometimes I work for four hours sometimes I work six hours, it really depends on if I am needed. Most of the time I get out early at the weekends.

I was worried that it wasn’t going to be worth it at all when it came down to how much money I was getting paid after tax. I was pleasantly surprised when I got £150 for four days’ work last month. I know it’s not a lot but it’s less to worry about and over a year I would have nearly two grand extra in my savings. I can’t complain about that! Two grand for some washing up and talking to people, I do that at home for free (sometimes!)

This time around seems to be much easier to manage two jobs. I think it is mostly down to the fact the hours I am working are different and regular. I still manage to sleep a full night every night and overall it’s nice to work with different faces sometimes even if it is on the weekend!
